The Preparatory Program consists of Preparatory Dance, and Ballet 1 and Modern 1 where students continue to expand their dance vocabulary and strengthen their awareness of movement within the ballet and modern dance techniques. Students in this program may participate in the Rite of Spring and The Steadfast Tin Soldier. Dancers are highly encouraged to participate in these performances. Students in the Preparatory Program take a minimum of one class per week, and students in Level 1 are encouraged to take both Ballet and Modern.
In Preparatory Dance students are encouraged to be creative in class as they learn more ballet terms and technique. Children continue to develop the introductory concepts of ballet and modern dance technique that they learned in Primary Dance. Increased levels of concentration, introductory composition, group work, and cognitive development are emphasized.
Please note: students must be seven at the beginning of the school year to register for Preparatory Dance.
Ballet 1 and Classical Modern 1
Ages 8 and older
Ballet students continue to develop basic ballet concepts and vocabulary, improving strength and coordination, and learning to build longer sequences of movement. Modern students continue to develop basic modern dance concepts, focusing on the use of body weight in movement, lowering into and pushing out from the floor, and exploring their creativity and artistic expression. Dancers may take modern or ballet, but are highly encouraged to take both for faster progress and more fun! Ballet 1A is for first-year ballet students, and Ballet 1B is for continuing ballet 1 students ages 9 and up.
Payment for the class may be made as a one-time payment for the full school year, due by October 1st, or paid monthly.
