Incorporating all these elements, class culminates with a high-energy combination designed to improve a student's jazz technique and movement skills.Saturday Intermediate /Advanced Modern Dance Class July 5 & 12, 12:30-2:00PM
Jason Ohlberg’s modern dance class is mainly influenced by revolutionary inventors of modern dance and ballet technique. Jason creates his own distinctive style of teaching, integrating the principals of spiral and contraction of Martha Graham, the breath, swing and release of Jose Limon and the spine, curve and line of Merce Cunningham. Without attempting to water down these forms of dance or tying his teaching to their historical context of origin, Jason makes these techniques accessible and useful within the vocabulary of today’s contemporary dance student. Jason’s goal is to teach students to move from their center allowing them to discover the freedom of expression in their dancing, and to use this technical foundation to push themselves to new levels and to learn the power of travel and flight.Class begins with a center series of back exercises that gradually incorporates larger movements of the spine then moving into the extremities. The center concludes with a full body back exercise that works in and out of the floor followed by a centering adagio. In conclusion, students move across the floor with a series of turns, petit and grand allegro.
